Elderly couple escape Adelaide house blaze

An elderly couple has escaped their burning home in Adelaide in the middle of the night.

Fire crews rushed to the Hillcrest blaze at about 4.30am on Monday after a neighbour heard a smoke alarm and reported it, the Metropolitan Fire Service says.

The elderly couple inside were safely evacuated before the crews arrived and contained the fire, which has led to part of the home's roof collapsing.
