Court delays case of former union boss

A former union official facing dishonesty charges may apply for an interim stay of the proceedings as he explores ways to fund his defence.

Stephen Brennan, who served as secretary of the South Australian and Tasmanian branch of the Textile, Clothing and Footwear Union, has been charged with multiple counts of dishonestly dealing with documents between 2000 and 2007.

He served as union secretary from 1995 to 2006.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday, defence counsel said an application for an interim stay of proceedings was being considered but would depend on the release of documents from the Family Court.

Magistrate Bob Harrop said sorting through all avenues of potential funding and other issues was a "tortuous process" and allowed a defence application for an adjournment.

The case will return to court on March 9.
