Man charged over SA policeman's assault

A man has been charged over the alleged assault of an Adelaide policeman who was arresting him.

The 31-year-old officer was punched several times and suffered cuts and grazes to his head but managed to hold his assailant until reinforcements arrived, police said.

The officer was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

A 39-year-old Highbury man was charged with resisting police, aggravated assault causing harm and threatening to kill.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.
