Company fined over Adelaide Oval waste

A company involved in the Adelaide Oval redevelopment has been fined $25,000 for improperly storing low-level contaminated waste from the project.

Adelaide Resource Recovery (ARR) was found on three occasions to have stored contaminated soil in the open at a Dry Creek site when it should have been placed under cover.

In the Environment Resources and Development Court on Friday, Judge Jack Costello said 39,000 tonnes of soil had been removed from Adelaide Oval and taken to the ARR facility but only 500 tonnes was stored in a shed as required.

He said the conscious decision by ARR to breach its licence had the potential to put the protection of the environment and the public at risk.
