A purple Dora the Explorer T-shirt is among items of clothing found alongside the remains of a young child dumped in a suitcase in the South Australian bush.

Police have released photos of the T-shirt, pink track pants and blue teddy bear pyjamas found with the skeletal remains near the Karoonda Highway at Wynarka, east of Adelaide, on Tuesday.

Investigators hope the clothing will help them identify the young victim, whose gender is still unknown but is believed to be between two and five years old.

"We are also seeking any information about a man seen by several people walking along the Karoonda Highway, carrying a dark suitcase, about 8am one morning about six to eight weeks ago," Detective Superintendent Des Bray said.

He is described as being aged about 60, of Caucasian appearance, average height, lightly built, clean cut and neatly dressed. He was not a local."

Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
