Charges dropped against SA father and son

Aggravated assault charges against notorious former Adelaide bikie Vince Focarelli and his son Guiseppe have been dropped after the alleged victim refused to give evidence.

Prosecutors tendered no evidence in relation to the charges in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Previously, the court had been told Guiseppe Focarelli bashed the alleged victim while his 41-year-old father, a former member of the Commancheros, aided and abetted in the assault.

Vince Focarelli, who has survived six attempts on his life, and his 20-year-old son both pleaded not guilty to the assault charges.

They have also pleaded not guilty to two related charges of driving in a reckless or dangerous manner and will return to court on those matters on March 10.

A trial on the assault charges began in January last year but was repeatedly adjourned, with prosecutor Tim Preston telling the trial the alleged victim would not give evidence "because, on the prosecution case, he is frightened".

At that time the court was told the Focarellis had engaged in a high-speed car chase with the alleged victim, who was then driven in his own car by the father.

The prosecution contended it was after the chase and after the man was driven to another location that he was bashed.
