CFS closes off SA's fire season

South Australia's Country Fire Service responded to more than 4000 incidents over the past year, the smallest number for five years.

But the CFS says the summer fire season, which closes at midnight on Thursday, was marked by the largest blaze near Adelaide in 30 years.

The Sampson Flat fire burnt for seven days and destroyed more than 13,000 hectares of forest and scrub in the Adelaide Hills.
