Body recovered from Adelaide river

The body of a man has been recovered from Adelaide's River Torrens with the death sparking a wider search of the river and the surrounding area.

Police are treating the death of the man, aged between about 40 and 60, as suspicious but have been unable to determine the cause or his identity.

They say it's also too early to determine if he suffered any injuries, with a post mortem examination still to be conducted.

The body was found floating in the river by a member of the public about 2pm on Thursday not far from the University of Adelaide footbridge.

Inspector Rob Bandenoch said it was unclear how long the man had been in the water or how he got there.

"We're treating it as suspicious until we can determine otherwise," he said.
