Background on SA MP Bernard Finnigan

BACKGROUND OF SA MP BERNARD FINNIGAN:

* Born in Mt Gambier, December 8, 1972.

* Studied for bachelor of arts degree at the University of Adelaide 1990-93.

* Joins the Labor Party in 1992.

* Joins SA branch of the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association as union official in 1995.

* Appointed union assistant secretary in 2000.

* Appointed to Legislative Council in 2006 by the Labor government to fill a casual vacancy.

* Appointed Minister for Industrial Relations and Gambling in February, 2011.

* Arrested at his home on April 20, 2011 and charged with child pornography offences.

* Resigns from cabinet and the Labor Party on April 21, 2011.

* Continues to sit in the Legislative Council as an independent MP.
