App has SA litterbugs in its sights

South Australians are being encouraged to dob in people who chuck rubbish out of their cars through a new mobile app.

The free Dob In a Litterer app lets users report sightings to the state's Environment Protection Authority by submitting the vehicle's registration and other details.

The EPA will investigate reports from the app, available on Apple and Android devices from Wednesday, and litterers could be fined between $210 and $1000.
