A man who hurled objects at police from the roof of an Adelaide Motel during a four-hour stand-off has been charged over the incident.

Police were called to the Marion Motel, in suburban Plympton Park, about 2.30am on Thursday following reports of an agitated man on the roof.

Just after 6.30am police negotiated for the man to come down and took him into custody without incident.

He has been charged with aggravated assault, assault police and two counts of property damage, involving around $15,000 damage to the motel.

He has been refused bail and is expected to face the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday.
