Hospital and entertainment venue on alert as Adelaide measles outbreak spreads

Adelaide's measles outbreak is spreading with exposure sites now stretching right across the city.

The current outbreak includes five cases, making this year the state’s worst for measles since 2016.

The South Australia Health list of sites people visited while infectious features several high-traffic areas.

That includes the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Harbour Town, Westfield Marion, the Fulham Gardens Shopping Centre and Revo Fitness at Glenelg. 

The full, updated list is available at the SA Health website. As of Sunday night, it included 28 locations.

Visitors to those places during specific times have been encouraged to check for symptoms including a fever, a cough, a running nose and sore eyes.

The illness commonly progresses to a blotchy rash, which usually begins on the head and spreads down the body.

The outbreak started when a student at Brighton Secondary School returned from overseas before infecting several classmates.

But the list of exposure sites suggests the virus could now spread beyond the southern suburbs.

As a precaution, health authorities urged people to check their vaccination records and visit their GP for a booster shot if necessary.
