SA drenched but severe weather threat gone

South Australia has been soaked with rain but emergency crews have received fewer calls than expected and the threat of severe weather has now passed.

Steady rain fell across Adelaide on Friday morning as umbrella-wielding workers dodged puddles on the footpaths.

The CBD received almost 20mm of rainfall between midnight and midday but much of it fell during the morning rush hour.

The Adelaide Hills copped a little more than the city but South Australia's west was the wettest part of the state, with Ceduna recording more than 37mm.

The Bureau of Meteorology said the rainfall was on the lower end of the range they had forecast, with a rain band forming further south than expected.

A spokesman for the State Emergency Service said less than 50 call outs had been received by lunchtime, a far cry from the hundreds they had been bracing for.

But the service still warned South Australians to remain cautious on the wet roads and take care when doing outdoor activities.

The bureau cancelled a severe weather warning for much of the state but severe thunderstorms were still likely in the northwest and northeast pastoral districts later on Friday.
