RSV cases 'remain high' in NSW, surpassing COVID-19 and flu cases

There are a high number of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) cases in NSW, while COVID-19 and flu case numbers remain steady and low.

There's been a nine per cent increase in notifications of RSV cases over the last week, bringing the total number to 3084, according to NSW Health.

Meanwhile,1648 COVID-19 cases and 1555 flu cases were recorded in the past week.

While COVID-19 and flu case notifications have also increased by more than nine per cent over the last 7 days, the overall amount of positive cases remains lower than the latest RSV numbers.

"COVID-19 and influenza activity remain at low levels," NSW Health said in its weekly respiratory surveillance report.

"There are, however, some indications of an increase in influenza with an increase in notifications since last week and two consecutive weeks of increase in the proportion of positive influenza tests.

"Presentations to, and admissions from, emergency departments for children with bronchiolitis remain high. RSV activity remains at high levels."

RSV Vaccines are available for vulnerable Australians, including babies and eligible adults.
