Roger Rogerson sought over student's murder

One of Australia’s most notorious dirty cops Roger Rogerson is being sought by police in connection with the disappearance of a university student. 

Police are trying to locate Roger Rogerson, 73, over the disappearance of Sydney University student Jamie Gao, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Rogerson is believed to be in Queensland and the nature of his alleged involvement in the disappearance is not known but members of the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad were yesterday seen searching the former detective’s Padstow home. 

Former Kings Cross detective and known associate of Rogerson, Glen McNamara, has this morning been charged with Mr Gao's murder.

Mr Gao, 20, from Hurstville disappeared about 1.40pm last Tuesday after meeting two young men and getting into a white car on Arab Road, Padstow, in the city's south.

Police this morning charged McNamara with his murder as well as a number of drug-related offences. 

Once the recipient of 13 bravery awards for his actions Rogerson became infamous after it was revealed he was committing crimes as well as fighting them.

His was accused of a number of crimes including the shooting of a fellow police officer and giving a “green light” to criminals to commit crimes. He was dismissed from the police force in 1986 and convicted of perverting the course and lying to the Police Integrity Commission.
