Rifle-wielding robber storms supermarket near Caboolture

A 16-year-old shop attendant has been left terrified after a robber brandished a rifle during a raid of a supermarket in Queensland’s south-east.

CCTV showed the masked thief storm the IGA supermarket in Wamuran, near Caboolture, about 6.55pm yesterday.

Armed with a gun, the man demanded cash from the teenage shop attendant, who was seen cowering behind a roll of paper towel.

She was forced to enter the backroom of the store and take money out of the safe.  

The robber then fled the scene with a sum of cash, police said.

IGA store owner Luke Baker told 9NEWS he was “disgusted” by the crime.

“It's just disgusting that they planned to get a girl that's so young, or wait for someone that's so vulnerable, to strike,” Mr Baker said.

Soon after emergency services arrived at IGA Wamuran, police were called to another supermarket robbery minutes away.

“I saw a man with a blue balaclava wrapped around his head running out, saying he just robbed the place,” witness Liam Foster said.

A 40-year-old Morayfield man was arrested soon after.

It is the second time in less than a week the same Caboolture South supermarket has been targeted.

On Thursday night, a man threatened workers with a blood-filled syringe and demanded cigarettes.

Police believe the two robberies may be linked.
