More residents were forced to flee their homes in Melbourne's east overnight as a building site between two townhouses continued to crumble.

A wall at the Burwood construction site collapsed further just hours ago after work was halted yesterday.

Six people were evacuated from one of the houses and face some time in temporary accomodation as fears remain over the safety of their house.

This followed the earlier evacuation of four people in a separate house earlier this week.

Following the latest collapse, a concrete driveway was left virtually suspended in the air as earth crumbled away beneath it.

There were plans to build an apartment block, medical centre and underground carpark on the site.

However, construction has been halted as authorities investigate the accidents.
