A construction worker has been rushed to hospital after being rescued from a crane in Melbourne's inner north-east.

The man is in a stable condition with a lower-body injury, according to paramedics, who were called to the Alphington building site about 7.15am.

He has been taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital after "a high-angle rescue", in which emergency service workers carried him down the crane shaft on a stretcher.
