Australian man killed while fighting against ISIL: report
(9NEWS)
Unconfirmed reports suggest an Australian man has been killed while fighting against the Islamic State group in Syria.
According to the ABC, social media accounts belonging to Kurdish military units claim volunteer soldier Jamie Bright died last week in Rojava, in northern Syria.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has been unable to confirm the 45-year-old’s death.
"The Australian Government’s capacity to confirm reports of deaths in Syria is extremely limited," it said in a statement.
"Due to the exceptionally dangerous security situation, DFAT is not able to provide consular assistance in Syria, which is listed as a ‘do not travel’ destination in DFAT’s travel advice."
