Son fronts court after allegedly stabbing mother in Sydney's east

A man has fronted court today after he allegedly stabbed his mother in Sydney's eastern suburbs yesterday afternoon.

The woman, 41, is still in hospital after being allegedly stabbed several times in the face and chest by her son, 21-year-old Jordan Fahy.

The pair got into an argument at a unit block on Roberts Avenue in Randwick, before the 21-year-old allegedly attacked his mother, stabbing her with a paint scraper at 4.30pm, police said.

More CCTV footage released today shows the aftermath of the alleged attack.

A tradie can be seen chasing and tackling the alleged offender and waiting for police to attend the scene.

"I saw three gentlemen running down the road, one of them was covered in blood, my first instinct was to help the guy out, as soon as I intercepted them, I jumped on him," bystander Bill told 9News.

Bystander Nick Bourdo was the one who called triple zero.

"I said 'hey guys, you better get someone here', they said 'we're trying, there's traffic it's 5.00'," he told 9News.

"I said 'I understand, but she's not in a good position'."

The single mother remains in St Vincent's Hospital in a serious condition but stable condition.

Fahy was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital under police guard for assessment but has since been discharged.

He was charged with a domestic violence wounding offence.
