Radio legend John Laws admitted to hospital with infection

Radio legend John Laws has been admitted to hospital in Sydney with an infection and will undergo a procedure.

The 85-year-old's latest health scare was revealed by Ben Fordham on 2GB this morning.

Fordham said the veteran broadcaster had been through a "very tough time" but was responding well to treatment.

Laws is expected to be off the air for a week during his hospitalisation.

"I've received a message from Lawsie who's asked me to let you know that he'll be off the air for a week or so, as he undergoes a minor procedure," Fordham said on 2GB.

"He's been suffering from an infection but it is responding well to treatment.

"Lawsie knows there's a lot of interest in his wellbeing and he wanted me to thank all his loyal listeners and supporters and to let you know that he's looking forward to returning to his program very soon.

"He's been through a very tough time, in fact it hasn't been a good year.

"But he'll probably come out with flying colours, like the old juggernaut he is."

Fordham later wished Laws well on social media.

"Get well soon, Lawsie and lots of love from everyone at 2GB," Fordham tweeted.

Laws, known as the "golden tonsils" of Australian radio, enjoyed a 60-year career before retiring initially in 2007.

He returned to radio with 2SM four years later where he broadcasts the station's morning show.

His health scare comes after the death of radio kingmaker John Brennan last week.

Laws' wife Caroline died last year after a battle with cancer.
