Queenslanders most reluctant Aussies to claim lotto winnings

Queensland has taken out the title of the nation’s most reluctant Gold Lotto winners.

Six of the eight unclaimed division one prizes across the country are from the Sunshine State, totalling more than $6.7 million dollars.

Matt Hart from Tatts group lottery says he’s surprised people aren’t claiming what is rightfully theirs.

“We’re not sure why Queenslanders are so shy in claiming their division one prize money,” he said.

The single biggest unclaimed amount is from a ticket sold in 2014 in Cairns, the mystery millionaire winning $2 million.

In south-east Queensland, a $1-million-dollar payday awaits ticket holders from Morayfield (2015), Maroochydore (2016) and Bli Bli (2017), while Nextra Capalaba Park News is hunting the recent winner of a November jackpot of $369,059.

“We’re certainly eager and ready to unite them with their unclaimed millions,” Mr Hart said.

Owners of Nextra Lutwyche are alsol hunting a mystery millionaire.

The store sold a lucky ticket at the end of 2016, but so far the $1.3 million dollar jackpot hasn’t been claimed.

“It is really massive and we can’t believe it’s still gone on unclaimed. Someone out there is sitting there, $1.3 million richer and doesn’t even know it,” store manager Bianca Ayies said.

“We would really love for it to be a local to have won it and are hoping they may come in and claim it.”

Mr Hart says avoiding the million-dollar mystery is easy.

“If you get an entry, make sure you register that entry. That means we can call you with that dream come true news straight after the draw.”
