Search underway for missing Queensland man last seen on Magnetic Island

A search is continuing for a missing Queensland man last seen six days ago on Magnetic Island, off the coast of Townsville.

Ben Chrisholm, 22, was last seen around 11.30am July 13 and reported missing later that day.

Witnesses report he was last seen heading towards the Arcadia walking track, one of several tracks on the island.

The 22-year-old's family have told police Chrisholm's disappearance is out of character and they have serious concerns for his welfare.

Acting Inspector Mark Camilleri said there are no working theories regarding the disappearance.

"We are remaining open," he said.

"Today we've kicked off drone deployment we also have specialist force arriving on the island.

"The search is progressing smoothly."

Camilleri confirmed items of Chrishold's clothing had been found.

A coordinated search effort including SES, Rural Fire Service, Parks and Wildlife, and a QGAir Rescue 521 Helicopter progressed this week.

Magnetic Island consists of 80 per cent national park and is home to 2335 permanent residents.

Camilleri said the island's rocky terrain made search efforts difficult.

"All the local people know what Maggie Island is like: it's very rocky, it takes a long time to search," he said.

"The terrain over there is very, very rugged hence the helicopter we have is one of the mustering helicopters so we can search the canopy line.

"We're progressing the search as we go."

Anybody with information regarding Chrisholm's disappearance is urged to contact police.

The 22-year-old is described as Caucasian with long brown hair and around 170cm tall.

He was last seen wearing shorts and a dark green pullover.
