Queensland Police locate missing 'distraction device' stun grenade

Queensland Police have found a self-described "distraction device" that was lost during a raid at Kirwan last weekend.

Officers were conducting a routine weapons audit of a specialised unit that conducted a raid on a property at Kirwan on Sunday when they discovered they were missing an item.

Described by police as a "distraction device", the stun grenade was unable to be located following extensive searches on the property throughout the night.

Police have said the device is not lethal but has the capacity to cause injury if a member of the public picks it up and handles it incorrectly.

Officers launched a public appeal to help find the device earlier today.

Police said this afternoon officers have located the device during an ongoing search of the scene.

"Police thank the community for their co-operation," police said.

The operation at Kirwan, near Townsville, resulted in a 12-hour siege where police were responding to reports that a man had fired several shots at cars.

He then barricaded himself inside a property on Elphinstone Road.

The incident ended when police forced entry into the home and discovered the body of a 50-year-old man.
