Mount Isa man charged with more than 70 child sex offences allegedly committed over 25-year period

A 40-year-old man from Mount Isa has been charged with 75 child sex offences, including rape and grooming, against five children over more than two decades.

The man was charged yesterday with the offences, with police alleging they took place over 25 years.

He was charged with 55 counts of indecent treatment, eight counts of making child exploitation material, three counts each of rape and grooming, two counts each of unlawful sodomy and using the internet to procure children and one count each of possessing child exploitation material and supplying dangerous drugs to minor.

"Our team has relentlessly investigated these offences to hold the alleged offender to account," Acting Senior Sergeant Shauna McIvor said.

"We fully investigate all reports of offences against children, and acknowledge the courage required by a young person to come forward and make a complaint.

"Thanks to the bravery of these children in speaking up, we have arrested and charged a man and put him before the courts."

He was remanded in custody to re-appear in Mount Isa Magistrates Court on October 20.
