Queensland dad shocked after snake falls out of daughter's pillowcase

Exclusive: A Queensland dad got the shock of his life when they discovered a snake had slithered its way into his daughter's pillow case as she slept.

Gympie local Michael Bonney was woken up by his 11-year-old daughter Emily at 3am on Wednesday - she said she was scared because she felt and heard something moving in her pillowcase.

Emily thought her curtains had been rubbing against her pillowcase, but then she noticed something moving in her pillow, prompting her to wake up her dad.

Bonney, half awake, took his daughter's pillow and decided to empty what he thought was a cockroach into the bathtub "so it would be contained."

To his surprise, a yellow-faced whip snake fell out of the pillowcase, where his daughter's head had been resting a few minutes before.

"I said holy shit," Booney said.

"[Emily] was pretty shaky when I mentioned it was a snake, she was pretty shocked then."

"There was no way she was going back to sleep."

The Queensland father called a local snake catcher, who arrived 30 minutes later to remove the snake.

Bonney said he thinks the snake got into the house through the small gap in his front door, which he has since fixed.

Despite giving the family a shock, he said the snake wasn't aggressive at all.

"It had plenty of times where it could have gotten a bit aggressive, when I was fiddling around with the pillow case, when it was crawling around in her bed, when it was in the bath," Booney said.

"When the snake catcher came, it showed no signs of aggression... I think there's a misunderstanding of snakes."

"All this little guy wanted to do was have a nice little warm sleep."

A bite from a yellow-faced whip snake won't kill or greatly harm a human, but they can be dangerous to small pets.

While the bite won't kill you, it can still cause swelling or redness.

Its venom can also sometimes cause nausea or a headache, but severe reactions are uncommon.

Any snake bite should be looked at by a medical professional, regardless of the species.
