A South Australian man accused of stabbing a young mother, causing her to drop her baby, has had his case adjourned in a Queensland court.

South Australian man Jason Wayne Greatbatch, 35, allegedly stabbed the 21-year-old woman twice in the torso at a Kuttabul home, near Mackay, on December 28.

He is also accused of stabbing a 23-year-old man in the backyard before entering the house where the woman was holding her baby.

Police allege he then caught a flight to Adelaide, where he was arrested the same day.

Greatbatch was extradited to Queensland on a string of charges, including attempted murder, on January 1.

He was on Thursday remanded in custody to reappear in Mackay Magistrates Court on January 14.
