Yes vote leading in Qld terms referendum

Queenslanders look likely to vote in favour of extending parliamentary terms from three years to four.

A referendum on Saturday asked voters whether they want MPs to serve fixed four-year parliamentary terms instead of the current non-fixed three-year model.

The yes vote is winning with 53.41 per cent of the vote, compared to the no vote's 46.59 per cent.

So far 23.83 per cent of the vote has been counted.

Queensland is the only Australian state or territory that holds elections every three years instead of every four.
