Water police to ramp up patrols for Easter

Queensland water police have put boaties on notice as they prepare to ramp up patrols for the long Easter weekend.

Waterways across the state will be popular with holidaymakers, with warm sunny weather forecast.

Brisbane Water Police's Senior Sergeant David Edden said crews would be intercepting vessels, conducting random breath tests and checking safety equipment.

"We want boaties to use a bit of common sense and be patient especially as boat ramps and waterways could be more congested than usual," he said.

Sen Sgt Edden urged them not to drink or speed on the water, saying both had the potential to kill on the waterways.

He also urged those heading offshore to book on and off with the Volunteer Marine Rescue or Coast Guard and to ensure their emergency position-indicated radio beacon was registered and on board.
