Man shot at by Qld police faces court

A Queensland man has faced court three days after he was shot at by police as he allegedly fled from them in a McDonald's car park.

Zachariah John Hewitt, 26, appeared in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon.

Police fired at Hewitt's vehicle as they tried to arrest him outside the North Mackay McDonald's on Friday.

Hewitt escaped but handed himself in to police in Rockhampton on Sunday night.

He is facing charges of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of a dangerous drug.

He has been remanded in custody and will next face court on October 5.
