Unions still banned at Qld builder's sites

Construction industry unionists are still banned from striking outside building sites managed by a major contractor in Brisbane as they await the outcome of a legal stoush with the Fair Work inspectorate.

Brisbane Federal Court Justice Berna Collier made the orders on Friday after a pre-existing injunction lapsed earlier this week.

She ordered the CFMEU, among other respondents, be restrained from organising or assisting "any stoppage or interference (of) paid work" at any building site controlled by Hutchinson Builders, and imposed time limits on when meetings could be convened and written notice for them.

However, she also stated conditions to enable exemptions to those rules, including if "bona fide" advice was being provided to a person working on a Hutchinson site in respect to occupational health and safety issues.

The court proceedings stem from Fair Work Building Commission allegations several CFMEU officials targeted nine of Hutchinson's sites and disrupted work 15 times since late August, including at the $360m Skytower project and the $120 million Newstead Central apartment block.
