Three crime scenes in Qld women's deaths

Three crime scenes where two women were killed and a girl sustained facial injuries will be examined as police continue investigations into an apparent stabbing attack.

A man is in custody after being arrested on the street at Gordonvale, south of Cairns, where the women were found dead by police who arrived following reports of a disturbance on Monday afternoon.

The man is yet to be questioned by police, but it's expected he will be interviewed after being forensically processed and assessed for physical and mental health issues, Inspector Monique Ralph told reporters at the scene.

Several witnesses and family members are being questioned, she said.

"A number of people have gone with the detectives to provide statements," she said.

Details of the attack are still emerging, however Inspector Ralph said a 17-year-old girl's face had been wounded.

"She has a minor laceration," she said.

Inspector Ralph said police were unsure whether the attack was a case of domestic violence but it's believed all involved are known to each other.
