Three injured in north Qld chopper crash

One person has been airlifted to hospital after a helicopter with six people on board crashed in far north Queensland.

The aircraft came down on a large rock on Mount Cook, near Cooktown, about midday on Tuesday, a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said.

The chopper was reportedly caught in a wind gust.

One person has been flown to Townsville Hospital, but their condition isn't yet known, a Queensland Health spokesman told AAP.

A man, aged 60, sustained non-life threatening injuries and is in a stable condition in the Cooktown Hospital.

A 40-year-old man was also injured, but he has since been discharged from Cooktown Hospital.

The others weren't hurt and walked out of the crash site with the help of emergency crews from Cooktown, Townsville and Cairns.
