Train guard blames upbringing for teen's vile abuse

A Brisbane train guard who was subjected to a shocking racist attack has blamed his alleged abuser's upbringing for the outburst.

Josphat Mkhwananzi has already returned to work after he was filmed calmly responding to a drunken young man launching a racial tirade against him.

"Learn some f------ English, because this is Australia, c---, I can't understand you," Abdel-Kader Russell-Boumzar is filmed saying.

"Do you even have a citizenship, you f------ n-----?"

Mr Mkhwananzi remained calm during the abuse, even standing between Russell-Boumzar and another passenger who was standing up for the guard.

Mr Mkhwananzi told the Courier Mail he can't blame the kids for their behaviour.

"If you can't teach your kids the right thing … kids are ambassadors of their families," he said.

"If you are a normal human being, you must not be pushed or pulled by the situation."

"I have never seen any other country where this is not (happening) … All countries are having their own issues."

Russell-Boumzar, 17, apologised to the guard when speaking to reporters outside Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday.

He did not enter a plea for charges of assault, assault occasioning bodily harm, making threats, creating a disturbance and using a carriage service to menace.

Despite the video appearing to show Russell-Boumzar spitting on Mr Mkhwananzi, his lawyer said the youth would contest the spitting charge.

Under strict bail conditions, Russell-Boumzar cannot travel on Queensland trains and is not allowed to leave his house without parental supervision.
