Time to move all clocks forward: Qld man

It's time for the entire eastern seaboard to permanently wind all clocks forward by half an hour and ditch daylight saving, a retired Queensland businessman says.

Graeme Brittenden has renewed his push for a consistent eastern time zone, lodging a petition in Queensland's parliament.

The petition calls on the government to advance clocks across the state by half an hour and to get southern counterparts to do the same and abandon daylight saving.

Mr Brittenden said daylight saving had become "superfluous and irrelevant" in eastern Australia.

"It certainly has no applicability in Queensland," he says on his petition.

"Apart from the confusion it causes at the QLD/NSW border there are many other inconveniences."

Those inconveniences included the Queensland economy being burdened with extra costs, he said.

The petition, which has so far attracted 43 signatures, comes about three months after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk ruled out a referendum on daylight saving in Queensland.

She said there were other priorities requiring attention in the state, despite 21,468 people signing a petition calling for a referendum on the issue.

That petition had argued research into daylight saving in Queensland in 2007 indicated 59 per cent of voters supported it while 10 per cent were undecided.
