Terror-accused Qld man 'studied for war'

A Brisbane man who allegedly studied guerrilla warfare and how to make explosives and silencers faces another month behind bars after being denied bail.

Za'id Abdus Samad, 21, faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday on 14 terrorism charges following a raid on a house in Kuraby, in Brisbane's south, on Saturday.

Court documents allege Samad plotted and planned to recruit two other juveniles - who cannot be named - for foreign incursions.

He is also accused of providing a 'how to kill by hand' document to one of the two juveniles.

Police say between July 2016 and February 2018 he obtained a passport, underwent martial arts training, bought items intended for bomb making, and researched flights to Turkey.

His barrister Ruth O'Gorman said the prosecution case was largely circumstantial and he faced a lengthy time in custody while awaiting trial.

But magistrate Christine Roney said he was a flight risk and the Crown case "was of some strength".

Samad is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on August 3.
