Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and large hail are expected to hit southeast Queensland for the second day running.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued an alert for the Somerset and South Burnett region north of Toowoomba on Monday afternoon.

The storms are moving east towards the Wide Bay area but are not expected to hit Brisbane, like an electrical storm which unleashed hail and high winds late on Sunday.

Another more general warning is in place for Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast districts.
