Stabbing accused to face north Qld court

A man accused of fatally stabbing another man at a Townsville unit will face court on Monday.

Police say the 34-year-old man inflicted a fatal wound to the 68-year-old man's chest during an alcohol-fuelled argument on Friday night at the Nathan Street unit complex.

It's alleged the victim, who had a disability, knew the accused.

"Unfortunately when alcohol is involved things can get out of hand, and it would appear that's the case in these circumstances," Detective Inspector Phil Watts told reporters on Saturday.

An examination of the crime scene located a knife which is believed to be the murder weapon.

The man was charged with murder on Sunday and is due to face Townsville Magistrates Court.
