CCTV shows Brisbane boy slip through gap between train and platform

Queensland Rail is reminding parents to remain extra vigilant around trains after alarming incidents involving children slipping through platform gaps.

Video footage shows a family outing become a heart-stopping incident for a family of four in Bowen Hills.

As they prepared to board the train, their young child broke free and slipped down the gap between the stationary train and the platform.

Queensland Rail hope the shocking video will send a message to families to stay close to young ones while travelling on trains.

“When you have your children with you on the platform or on the train, make sure you're holding their hand at all times, the same way you would if you were crossing the road with them,” Queensland Rail spokeswoman Rebecca Masci said.

Education campaigns have reinforced the message, partnered with childcare centres like GoodStart Early Learning.

“Things like how long it takes a train to stop and how important it is to stay behind that yellow line,” spokeswoman Rachael Foley said.

Last financial year there were 25 incidents involving children under 10 at train stations.
