Severe storms hit Qld city of Rockhampton

A severe storm has ripped a roof off a home, damaged businesses and downed trees and powerlines in the Queensland city of Rockhampton.

The storm, which swept through on Thursday afternoon, cut power to thousands of homes, and also sent water into businesses on Denham Street.

One home in the suburb of Allenstown lost its roof in the storm, which packed winds of 95km/h, leaving a family of five to find somewhere else to live.
