Severe storm warning for southeast Qld

Residents on Queensland's southeast coast and in the state's south are being urged to prepare for severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

The storms could bring with them flash flooding and large hailstones for the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Wide Bay and Burnett, Maranoa and Warrego, and Darling Downs and Granite Belt on Sunday evening, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM).

Communities including Roma, Charleville, Warwick, Toowoomba, Dalby, Kingaroy, Stanthorpe and Goondiwindi could be impacted.

Meanwhile there is the potential heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in areas of the Southeast Coast region, including Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and islands, Beenleigh and Caboolture.

BoM is asking residents avoid driving, walking or riding through flood water, to seek shelter, avoid using the telephone during thunderstorms, and move cars under cover or away from trees.
