Set indigenous candidate targets: Enoch

Political parties should have targets for recruiting indigenous candidates, Queensland's first female Aboriginal minister says.

Housing and Public Works Minister Leanne Enoch says parties have targets for female candidates contesting winnable seats at elections and they should do the same for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

"This is not about tokenism, this is about cut-through, this is about recognising the urgency of seeing more indigenous people in all political parties and in our parliament," Ms Enoch told parliament on Wednesday.
