An elderly man missing for 11 days in Queensland's far north may have been spotted trying to hail a ute after his last confirmed sighting.

Robert Dods, 85, was last seen when dropped off at his rural Kuranda property on September 7.

But police have received new information that he may have waved down a white single-cab ute at the Myola Road property on September 10.

They say Mr Dods was holding a rolled up green shopping bag and the ute was seen pulling over sometime between 9.30 and 10am.

It's not known whether the missing man got into the car but police say they're interested in talking to the driver.

He is thin, has short grey hair and is thought to be at least 50 years old.

The car may have had a red pin-stripe along the side and had a white mesh protection grille over the rear.
