Rape charge dropped over Brisbane attack

A Brisbane man charged with raping a Korean woman in broad daylight has been let off after the victim left the country.

The 24-year-old was alleged to have randomly attacked the foreign national as she was walking on the pathway near the Morayfield shopping centre, north of Brisbane, on July 22 last year.

Witnesses came to the 20-year-old victim's aid after allegedly hearing her screaming.

Police arrested the man at a nearby creek while the woman was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital for treatment.

The man appeared in the Caboolture Magistrates Court the following day and was released on bail under strict conditions.

He was ordered not to leave his house other than to report to the Caboolture police station three times a week or to appear in court in person.

The man was committed to the Brisbane District Court on September 19, but AAP understands the case against him was dropped by the Crown in December after the alleged victim left Australia.

The woman also left no contact details so prosecutors could reach her.

The man's bail conditions have since been lifted, and he is no longer being pursued on criminal charges.
