Queensland's mobile, speed and seatbelt cameras gets major funding boost
Anyone driving on Queensland roads can expect to see a lot more mobile, seatbelt, speed and red light cameras over the next few years.
Last year, cameras pulled in more than $800 million in fine revenue for the government.
Now, the Camera Detected Offence Program is getting a massive funding boost, 9News has confirmed.

The Cabinet Budget Review Committee approved $499.85 million to be given to the Transport and Main Roads Department for camera initiatives, with 39 full-time staff to be funded.
Millions more will also be given to police and treasury.

However, Transport customer service centres were not as lucky.
The committee rejected a $129.56 million proposal to fund 150 staff to resource customer service centres.

The government says any money that is raised from traffic cameras by law has to be reinvested in traffic safety.
While it's not yet known where and when the new camera rollouts will take place, the government will justify the funding boost because the state's road toll is the worst in the country.
