A woman has been charged over an alleged hit and run incident that hospitalised a young girl in Western Australia earlier this year.

Police allege the unlicenced woman was driving a white Suzuki Baleno hatchback when she drove through a pedestrian crossing on Pinetree Gully Road in Willetton on June 27.

The woman allegedly hit 12-year-old Alexis Lloyd, before fleeing the scene.

The young girl was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but has now nearly fully recovered.

Lloyd told 9News she had "lost hope" that the perpetrator would be found.

But after more than 30 tipoffs to police from the public, investigators arrested the 49-year-old Maddington woman on Monday.

She has since been charged with a number of offences including failing to stop and ensure assistance received, failing to report an incident occasioning death or grievous bodily harm and no authority to drive.

The woman will appear in the Armadale Magistrates Court on September 5.
