Queensland has passed landmark youth crime laws labelled "adult crime, adult time" by the government.

The laws passed tonight with the support of all LNP members, all Katter Party members and all Labor Party members as victims of crime watched on in the public gallery.

The governor was expected to give her assent this evening, meaning the laws would come into effect from early next week.

Premier David Crisafulli said the laws would fulfil his election pledge to reduce crime victim numbers.

"We are very confident that these laws will have the effect that they need," Crisafulli said.

"I have said if things need to be strengthened, they will."

The Making Queensland Safer laws include "adult crime, adult time", removing detention as a last resort, allowing courts to consider a youth offender's full criminal history and opening up the children's court to victims, their families and media.

Once assent of the bill occurs, youth offenders who commit serious crimes face the same penalties as adult offenders.

The change applies to 13 of the most serious offences including murder, manslaughter, unlawful striking causing death, grievous bodily harm, wounding, serious assault, home and business break-ins and robbery, and dangerous operation of vehicles.
