Car erupts into ball of flame after driver dropped cigarette into tissue box and crashed

A car has erupted into a ball of flames in Brisbane’s east before the driver crashed the vehicle into a power pole.

9News understands the male driver of the car had been trying to light a cigarette, before dropping it into a tissue box and sparking a fire inside the vehicle in the suburb of Wynnum.

The man then lost control of the car, ploughing it into a power pole on the corner of a road.

He managed to get himself out of the vehicle, before ambulance paramedics arrived at the scene.

He has since been taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital as a precaution with minor head burns.

At the scene of the crash, witnesses watched on as thick black plumes of smoke rose from the vehicle.
