A Toowoomba driver is in custody after trying to run a Queensland police officer off the road before crashing his car into a tree.

The incident occurred in Harlaxton on Friday about 12.30pm when the officer tried to pull over the driver of the car.

Video footage provided by the police shows the driver repeatedly refusing to stop the car, before swerving into the bike's path and speeding away.

Police said the man's car was found a short time later crashed into a tree off the highway near Mount Luke.

Dog squads tracked the man through bushland for several hours before losing the scent.

The 42-year-old driver was arrested a few hours later at a Crows Nest address.

He was charged with dangerous driving, endangering the life of a person with intent, failing to stop and unlicenced driving.

He will appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Saturday.
