Qld teen recovering after playground fall

A Gold Coast teenager who underwent brain surgery after fracturing his skull in a suspected schoolyard choking game has been released from hospital.

Jamie Cox, 15, was discharged from Gold Coast University Hospital on Monday - four days after passing out and hitting his head on the ground at Palm Beach-Currumbin High School.

Police say the teenager had his neck restrained by another student in a choke-hold before he lost consciousness.

They are investigating whether he was playing a game called "tap out", where the participant is held in a headlock until they tap to be released or pass out.

His father, Rodney Cox, who has hit out at reports Jamie was playing the game, says his son still faced months of rehab.

"The doctors are happy with Jamie's progress and he's very happy to be home," he told The Courier-Mail.
